Now in its sixth year, the annual Diversity in Tech Symposium (formerly Women in Tech) will highlight the experiences of experts working to advance innovation in clean energy, water conservation, food systems, disaster prediction, coastal science, sustainable manufacturing and many other areas within their organizations. Attendees are encouraged to join the career fair Thursday afternoon to meet company representatives and discover pathways into climate tech. This event will also feature the EDGE in Tech Initiative Athena Awards, recognizing those who have championed the advancement of women and people of color in technology.

The Diversity in Tech Symposium: Advancing Climate Resilience will feature:
  • A Climate Tech Fireside Chat with E. Natasha Stavros, Director of the Earth Lab Analytics Hub at the University of Colorado Boulder and Tsu-Jae King Liu, Dean of the UC Berkeley College of Engineering
  • Keynote talk by Margot Brown, Vice President of Environmental Justice & Equity Initiatives, Environmental Defense Fund
  • Featured panels:
    • Ag-food-tech: Feeding 10 billion in a hotter world hosted by UC Merced
    • Climate resilience and air quality: The One Health approach hosted by UC Davis
    • Getting to zero: Trends in the built environment hosted by UC Berkeley
    • Ocean innovation: Tech interventions for the health of our global waters hosted by UC Santa Cruz
  • Deep-dive breakout sessions with tech companies
  • Lightning talks and “two approaches” conversations with experts
  • Career fair connecting participants with leading tech companies seeking climate tech talent

Who should attend?

The symposium is open to the public, allowing a broader audience to join the conversation and reimagine an equitable and resilient future for all. We welcome participants from startups, nonprofit and government organizations, and established companies as well as students, staff and faculty. Attendees will walk away with deep insights into climate innovation and action, and gain an inspiring and motivating community that will champion the advancement of women and underrepresented communities working in technology fields.

About the Symposium

The Women in Tech Symposium is an annual event presenting the experiences of women towards a particular tech-related topic. In addition to the panels and discussion, the event also recognizes those who embody, encourage, and promote the inclusion of women in technology through the Women in Tech Initiative at UC Athena Awards.
