The Women in Tech Symposium is an annual event presenting the experiences of women towards a particular tech-related topic. In addition to the panels and discussion, the event also recognizes those who embody, encourage, and promote the inclusion of women in technology through the Women in Tech Initiative at UC Athena Awards.
As digital platforms and tools have become pervasive in our public, professional, and private lives, concern has intensified about the security of our information, institutions, and online identities. Focusing on inclusive cybersecurity, the symposium featured women leaders speaking on our shared cybersecurity future.
In 2019, the event showcased the experiences of women in AI and explored our collective future with representatives from leading companies, startups, academia, and the public sector.
Through two keynote presentations and two panels, this symposium highlighted the strategies of successful women in the tech industry and academia, as well as addressed challenges, like sexual harassment, implicit bias and pay inequality.
At this public event, leaders and champions of women in technology offered their thoughts on challenges to achieving gender diversity at all organizational levels of industry, academia, and the public sector.
